Over 4 Lakh Crore Investment Proposals: Rising North East Summit Concludes On A Successful Note

 Investment Highlights

•  Total investment proposals received during the summit amounted to ₹4.3 lakh crore. 
• Major Announcements:
  • Reliance Industries (Mukesh Ambani): Committed ₹75,000 crore over 5 years, focusing on agriculture, telecom, and digital services. 
  • Adani Group (Gautam Adani): Pledged ₹50,000 crore over 10 years. 
  • Vedanta Group (Anil Agarwal): Announced plans for over ₹30,000 crore investment. 
• Delegation Participation: Representatives from over 80 countries participated, including Japan, Europe, and ASEAN nations. 

Vision and Objectives

• Positioned the North Eastern Region (NER) as India’s “next economic powerhouse” and an international gateway to Southeast Asia.
• PM Modi was acknowledged for his role in embracing and unlocking the region’s untapped potential.

Institutional and Governance Framework

• Whole-of-Government Approach: Ensured coordination across various ministries and states.
• High-Level Task Forces: Established in 8 sectors, including Agriculture, Sports, Investment Promotion, Tourism, Economic Corridors, Infrastructure, Textiles & Handicrafts, and Animal Husbandry.
• Extensive Stakeholder Engagement: Involved 9 domestic roadshows, 2 Ambassador Meets with representatives from 95+ countries, 6 state roundtables, and multiple B2B and B2G meetings.

Infrastructure and Sectoral Growth

• Highway Expansion: Increased from 10,905 km in 2014 to 16,207 km projected for 2024.
• Power Generation: Added 694.5 MW of capacity along with over 10,000 km of transmission and distribution lines.
• Aviation Boost: Number of airports doubled from 9 to 17, with 36 major aviation projects completed.
• Education Investment: ₹21,000 crore invested over the past decade, including the establishment of over 800 new schools, 1 AIIMS, 9 medical colleges, and 2 IIITs.

Narrative Shift and Image Building

• NER’s Global Rebranding: Shifted perception from underdeveloped to a region worthy of investment.
• Cultural & Resource Potential: Highlighted the region’s natural beauty, music, sports, and biodiversity.
• Investor Confidence: Built through concrete projects, ministerial follow-ups, and mechanisms for tracking Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

Future Roadmap

• Post-summit activities include continued B2B and B2G engagement.
• The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) will act as an “investment bridge” between industry and state governments.
• MoUs will be tracked and implemented swiftly to ensure progress.
• The overarching goal is an economic revolution and revival in the Northeast, transforming it into a vibrant and connected economic zone.

Symbolic Significance

•  Marked the first-ever investment summit of this scale organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER). 
•  Featured prominent leadership including PM Modi, Jyotiraditya Scindia, top industrialists, diplomats, and key state ministers. 
•  The venue, Bharat Mandapam, was transformed to symbolize the Northeast’s emerging national stature.
