INTRODUCTION 
Taiga also known as boreal forest or snow forest, is 
a biome characterized by coniferous forests 
consisting mostly of pines, spruces and larches.  
The taiga is the world's largest biome. 
It is a forest of the cold, subarctic region.  
The subarctic is an area of the Northern 
Hemisphere that lies just south of the Arctic 
Circle.  
The taiga lies between the tundra to the north 
and temperate forests to the south.

FEATURES 
This biome typically has short, wet summers 
and long, cold winters.  
Precipitation is moderate in the taiga. (25 to 
100 cms) 
It gets plenty of snow during the winter and 
plenty of rainfall during the summer. 
Fires are very common in the taiga biome. 
 These fires are necessary to help rid the area 
of old and sick trees.
