Direction: Study the following information carefully to answer these questions.
A, B, C, D, E, F and G are members of a sports club and have liking for different games, viz Carrom, Table Tennis, Badminton, Bridge, Hockey, Football and Lawn Tennis but not necessarily in the same order. Each one of them has a liking for different musical instruments, viz Sitar, Guitar, Harmonium, Flute, Tabla, Banjo and Santoor, not necessarily in the same order. B likes Carrom and Banjo. E likes to play Bridge but not Harmonium or Tabla. The one who plays Hockey plays Sitar. F plays Guitar but not Table Tennis or Lawn Tennis. A plays badminton and Flute. The one who plays Lawn Tennis does not play Tabla. C plays Harmonium and G plays Hockey.
Who plays Santoor ?
  • a)
    D
  • b)
    A
  • c)
    E
  • d)
    D or E
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?

Pranab Goyal answered
Analysis of Preferences
To solve who plays the Santoor, let's analyze the information step by step.
Members and Their Games
- A: Likes Badminton, plays Flute.
- B: Likes Carrom, plays Banjo.
- C: Plays Harmonium.
- D: Unknown game and instrument.
- E: Plays Bridge, not Harmonium or Tabla.
- F: Plays Guitar, does not like Table Tennis or Lawn Tennis.
- G: Plays Hockey, plays Sitar.
Games Played
From the clues, we deduce:
- A likes Badminton and plays the Flute.
- B likes Carrom and plays the Banjo.
- C plays the Harmonium but the game is unknown.
- E plays Bridge and does not play Harmonium or Tabla.
- F plays Guitar but does not like Table Tennis or Lawn Tennis.
- G plays Hockey and the Sitar.
Remaining Games and Instruments
After matching the games and instruments, the following can be summarized:
- Carrom - B (Banjo)
- Badminton - A (Flute)
- Bridge - E (unknown instrument)
- Hockey - G (Sitar)
- Football - Unknown (D or E)
- Lawn Tennis - Unknown (D or E)
- Table Tennis - Unknown (D or E)
Since E plays Bridge and cannot play Tabla or Harmonium, the only remaining instrument is Santoor.
Conclusion
Thus, the person who plays Santoor is E.
The correct answer is option C.
